THE CHALLENGE: Creating Without Competing

For as long as I can remember, I have approached life with a desire to do things well. At work, this has served me wells as I enjoy solving problems, finding details others may miss, and striving for excellence.

But I have noticed that this same drive follows me home.

I don’t simply plant a garden; I want the garden everyone notices. I don’t just sew a dress, make a card, quilt a blanket, crochet a bag, knit a sweater or just simply make a bar of soap; I want whatever it is that I am making to be the one that stands out. Every project becomes a challenge, and every challenge becomes an opportunity to prove what I can create.

There is a part of me that loves this. I love learning, improving, and seeing an idea come to life.

But there is another part of me that is tired.

A part of me that wants to create simply because creating brings joy. A part of me that wants to remember that a garden does not need to be the best on the street to bring beauty. A handmade project does not need to win a competition to be meaningful.

Maybe the purpose of creating is not always to achieve something better than before.

Maybe sometimes the purpose is simply to slow down, be present, and enjoy the process.

This is the journey I want to explore; not creating perfectly, but creating freely.

Not competing.

Just creating.

And I would love for you to take this journey with me.

A journey of wonder, creativity, and slowing down. A journey where we give ourselves permission to step away from the pressure to always achieve, improve, and be the best.

A journey where we remember that life is not something to rush through or constantly measure. It is something to notice, experience, and savor.

Because while we are busy trying to create the perfect garden, the perfect project, or the perfect version of ourselves, we may miss the beautiful moments happening right in front of us.

So let’s slow down together.

Let’s create.

Let’s wonder.

Let’s remember that life is not a competition.

It is a story we are still writing.
